Don’t even get me started on gender stereotypes when it comes to math… actually, yes, DO get me started because we need to talk about this.
There is a lot to be said about the FALSE narrative that “boys are better at math than girls” and a lot of work to be done to change this stereotype, and don’t you worry, I will be coming back to this topic frequently. However, since today is my last day of maternity leave and I head back to changing the world tomorrow I will keep it short and sweet:
EVERYONE (read: ALL genders) can do math. PERIOD.
So, if you grew up with the belief that you were either “good” or “bad” at math due to your gender I am here to tell you that you are wrong. Fight me on it. I dare you.
My sweet, grandmother knows that I am a teacher and that I do something with math, so she sent me this magnet… her intentions were good.

I keep the magnet in my desk, not because I think it is cute or funny or true, but because it sends me into a RAGE. A rage that is necessary to do the work that I do and will only be used for good. Promise.
So now let me go do “girl things” because tomorrow I must math.
Can’t wait to read more!
